Indian classical music is an oral tradition, passed down from master to disciple through generations. There is no written repertoire, which is why the oral transmission of knowledge is fundamental.

The oral tradition has kept traditional Indian music ‘alive and well,’ significantly influencing the musical practice of artists.

Traditional teaching in India

Guru-Shishya-Parampara

AT TAPAN MUSICAL CENTRE
EACH CLASS IS UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT

At Tapan Musical Centre, we offer daily classes in Indian classical music: tabla, sitar, harmonium, singing, dilruba, bansuri...

The classes are aimed at both professionals and amateurs, always adapting to the abilities and needs of each student, so no prior musical knowledge is required.

The traditional Indian teaching method Guru-Shishya-Parampara consists of direct teaching passed down from teacher to disciple, from generation to generation, and is the key to this ancient oral tradition.
