Melodic structure of Indian music
Raga. What is it, meaning and concept?
Rāga (in Sanskrit राग ‘rāga’ (masc.) literally means “colour” or ‘mood’. In general, each Raga is a melody based on the composition and improvisation of 5, 6 or 7 notes.
The particular combination and order of these notes (ascending Aroha and descending Avaroha) creates a melody.
